One of my goals is to travel to every continent at least twice and make friends/business partners all around the world. I believe being well rounded will enable me to do so, since I will be knowledgeable in several fields and can have conversations with people and make connections (personal as well as professional). My plan is to read books on these subjects in my free time instead of the usual YA novels :)
Here is my list, so far. Feel free to suggest some more.
1. Finance-personal, US economy, business (specifically owning one), global economics, investing.
2. Classic literature-Western literature, poetry, European literature, historical non-fiction, etc.
3. Art- fine art, music (Classical, opera, jazz, blues, tribal), dance (ballet, ballroom), film, theatre.
4. Anthropology- sociocultural, biological/physical, archaeological, linguistic
5.History-U.S, African-American, Caribbean, Asian, European.
6. Languages- learn French, Arabic, Japanese, Korean.
7. World politics
8. Science-botany, chemistry, biology, physics. geography
9. Psychology
10. Philosophy
11. Law
12. Architecture
13. Misc.-Grammar, Logic, Critical Thinking, Reasoning, Analysis
I am doing something similar on Pinterest by pinning books that will help me become well rounded. Great post, I am looking forward to reading more about your journey.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, If I didn't know any better surely I thought I typed this post myself :P
ReplyDeleteYes this is a wonderful list of subjects to read from. I have a list of books on pinterest and my personal notebook on subjects like fine art (my love), languages (studying Chinese), world politics (INR major), geography, philosophy, logic, and etiquette. I also want to be more well read on non Western writers especially writers from the West Indies.
So far your blog sounds interesting, please do post more frequently when you have the time :)
